Build abolitionist communities with BLMUK

Abolition is needed now. BLMUK is growing a community of radical Black activists across England to learn more about abolition and develop ways to collectively build care not cages in our local areas.

Project Timbuktu is BLM UK’s political education course, designed to equip activists with tools, theory, and networks to advance Black Liberation. Through community circles, we’ll explore:

✊🏾 Radical Black Traditions in Britain: From anti-colonial struggles to mutual aid legacies.
⚖️ Abolition in Action: Developing “crime vs. harm” narratives to reimagine safety.
🌍 Global Black Struggle: Linking local organising to international movements.

Format: 8–16 participants + 3-4 facilitators per circle. Sessions blend discussion, strategy-building, and collective visioning.

If this speaks to your freedom dreams, then Project Timbuktu needs YOU.

We’ve had over 50 people participating in our first Project Timbuktu cohort. We’ve receiving lots of positive feedback from facilitators and participants. So we are excited to be able broaden it out for more Black activists and create learning spaces for people racialised as non-Black as well. We will be increasing our in-person areas to Bristol and Leeds, plus running sessions in London, Birmingham and Manchester.

Most of our in-person Black Liberation circles will be exclusively for people who identify as having Black African or Black Caribbean heritage. However we welcome anti-racists of all backgrounds to get involved either in our online course or an area offering multicultural learning groups.
